How to Clean and Care for Your Electric Guitar

Your Shergold electric guitar or bass is more than just an instrument — it’s a trusted companion in your musical journey. Regular cleaning and care help preserve its tone, playability, and finish for years to come. Here’s a quick guide to keeping your guitar in top shape:

1. Wipe It Down After Playing

Sweat and oils from your hands can corrode strings and dull the finish. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the strings, body, and neck after each session. Microfibre cloths work best.

2. Deep Clean the Fretboard
Over time, grime can build up around the frets. When changing strings, use a guitar-safe cleaner or lemon oil (for unfinished rosewood or ebony boards) to clean and hydrate the fretboard. Avoid harsh household cleaners.

3. Polish the Body — Carefully
Use a polish designed for guitars, especially on satin or gloss finishes. Apply lightly with a clean cloth and buff in circular motions. Always check the polish is safe for your specific Shergold finish.

4. Protect the Hardware
Bridge, pickups, and tuners can collect dust and moisture. A gentle brush or dry cloth can keep metal parts clean. Avoid spraying directly on hardware — apply to the cloth first.

5. Store Smart
Keep your Shergold in a case when not in use, away from direct sunlight and humidity. If you’re using a stand, ensure it’s nitro-safe to avoid damage to the finish.

6. Regular Check-Ups
Guitars change with the seasons. Check for fret buzz, neck shifts, or tuning issues. A professional setup once or twice a year keeps everything in harmony.
